Mobile is Everything: The Search for Manners

Written by Farrukh Younus on Tuesday, 08 March 2016.

mobile is everythingMobile has transformed people’s life, society and business –to refer to the Mobile World Congress’s (MWC) tag-line: Mobile in Everything. Laura Desmond, CEO of Starcom Mediavest, referred to this century at ‘the mobile century’ with ‘Mobile and brands reinventing themselves many times over in order to keep pace.’

Despite being in the mobile century, it’s clear by listening to WPP’s CEO Sir Martin Sorrell that some companies still view mobiles as an extension of a brand’s online presence rather than a stand-alone platform. The winners, as he identified, will be companies who ” understand the unit economics of the mobile economy.”

With over 100,000 attendees the 2016 MWC in Barcelona delivered through it’s keynotes, presentations and product launches.

Doing Business in the Far East

Written by Glede Jung on Monday, 07 September 2015.

Far East Asia is one of the most successful regional economies in the world. It encompasses China, the second largest global economy, even after the recent market turmoil. It also includes South East Asia, which according to the UK Trade & Investment (UKTI) has a combined GDP of £1.5 trillion in 2015.

The prosperous region is still as attractive as it was 30 years ago when Marjorie Leonidas left the United States for Hong-Kong, which was still under British Administration at the time. The managing director of retail social-proof technology Taggstar was part of a wave of entrepreneurs with the likes of Richard Caring who saw an opportunity for growth and development in Asia.

She travelled back to the 90s to share her experience and gives advice about doing business in the Far East.

Future-proofing retail: Maintaining a balance

Written by Rupal Karia on Thursday, 07 May 2015.

In the past there was a distinct difference between the services that retailers would provide in-store and online, however as the retail landscape has evolved this is no longer enough. Now we are seeing a demand from consumers for a more integrated digital and face-to-face experience. According to Fujitsu's recent research into the UK's digital landscape, Digital Inside Out, one in four consumers always choose a digital option when it comes to retail, whilst online shopping and click and collect were the second and third most used digital services respectively. However, the research also made it clear that the need for face-to-face services is still a must, with over a fifth of consumers (21%) naming it as their first choice of communication, demonstrating why businesses need face-to-face services as well.

Steve Wozniak: From Computer-less To Apple Genius

Written by Amit Pau on Tuesday, 27 January 2015.

Recently, I had the privilege of attending 'The World of Business Ideas' Conference in Milan as a guest of our fantastic corporate partner - IBM. Whilst the calibre of speakers was excellent and the conference itself was highly interesting, there was one name that stood out in particular - Steve Wozniak of Apple. Whilst Steve Jobs was the name synonymous with Apple, the technology behind the so-called 'Apple revolution' was can largely be attributed to Wozniak's enthusiasm and ethos, which holds many lessons for budding entrepreneurs and businesspeople alike.
